Lori Lowenthal Marcus is Legal Director of the The Deborah Project, where she leads litigation and advocacy defending Jewish civil rights and combating antisemitism and anti-Zionist discrimination in education and public life. An experienced litigator with a decade of journalistic work focused on Israel and the Middle East, Marcus brings a deep combination of legal strategy and communications expertise to her role.

She is a graduate of Brandeis University, holds two master’s degrees from Bryn Mawr College, and earned her J.D. from Harvard Law School. Before joining The Deborah Project, Marcus founded Z STREET, a nonprofit dedicated to educating the public about the Middle East and democratic responses to terror, and successfully challenged the IRS for viewpoint discrimination after it delayed Z STREET’s tax-exempt status due to its pro-Israel positions.

Marcus’s writing has appeared in major national and international outlets, including The Wall Street Journal, The Weekly Standard, and The Jerusalem Post, and her work with The Deborah Project has been featured in The New York Times, National Review, The Philadelphia Inquirer, and numerous other publications. In her current legal role, she has led impactful civil rights litigation addressing antisemitic curricula, hostile environments in schools, and other systemic discrimination.
